DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – On the way to the hotel we enjoy a little free time at Salt Mills, this former textile mill is now an art gallery, shopping centre and restaurant complex.
Day 2 – After breakfast we visit Carlisle Castle, standing proudly in the city after an introductory talk, enjoy free to explore this mighty fortress. Afterwards we have arranged a journey on the South Tynedale Railway, so sit back and enjoy the ride as we travel through the stunning landscape of the North Pennines Areas of Natural Beauty.
Day 3 – Today, a Blue Badge Tourist Guide will join us on the coach as we follow the ‘Military Road’ that shadows Hadrian’s Wall, a spectacular World Heritage Site. We then visit Vindolanda; home to Britain’s ‘Top Treasure’ – the Vindolanda Writing Tablets. One of Europe’s most important Roman archaeological sites, the on-site museum provides a breathtaking exploration of the Trust’s ongoing discoveries and accounts of Roman Life. Later this afternoon, our journey takes us to Hexham, one the haunt of marauding Vikings 1300 years ago, today Hexham proudly holds the title of England’s favourite market town!
Day 4 – Our first stop today is Lancaster, perhaps take this opportunity to visit Lancaster’s Castle or museums to uncover the city’s ancient stories before we return home.
