Bluebells have long been known to grow in the conservation area at Kew and are indicators of British ancient woodland. Every spring they fill the woods with an ocean of colour. It is the biggest bluebell wood in the London area and was given to Kew by Queen Victoria in 1898 to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee.
