Free time in Oban

Day 1 – After an early departure, sit back and relax as we travel to our hotel in Oban.

Day 2 – We make our way to Fort William, at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Today we have included a cable car ride up to Aonach Mor, this ‘mountain gondola’ is the only one of its kind in Britain and the journey allows for breathtaking views of Glencoe, Ben Nevis and, on a clear day, even the Isle of Skye.

Day 3 – After breakfast explore Oban, the ‘Seafood Capital of Scotland’. Oban is a wonderful place to spend the day. For stunning views head to ‘McCraig’s Tower’, this colosseum lookalike stands proudly above Oban and provides views over the town.

Day 4 – Today, after an early start, we set sail to the Isle of Mull, from here we take you on a scenic drive to Fionnphort where we catch a foot passenger ferry over to the unique island of Iona. Only 3 miles long and 1 mile wide, Iona is steeped in magnificent Scottish history which you can explore in Iona Abbey. The small graveyard next to the abbey is also thought to be the final resting place of 48 Medieval kings of Norway, Ireland and Scotland, including the 11th century king Macbeth! After some free time, we return to Fionnphort and head to Tobermory, the capital of Mull to enjoy free time. Tobermory was built as a fishing port in the late 18th century and is now a picture-postcard of a place with brightly painted buildings along the main street towards the pier surrounded by high woodland-fringed hills. After a fantastic day we return to the hotel for a late dinner this evening.

Day 5 – Today we take you to Inveraray, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, who founded the town in 1745. It is home to Inveraray Castle, a unique piece of architecture, Dukes Bell Tower and Inverary jail, an award-winning 19th century prison where you can interact with costumed prisoners, watch courtroom trails or even go to jail!

Day 6 – We retrace our footsteps home.
