Excursions to Barcelona, Girona & Besalu

Day 1 – We travel to our overnight hotel.

Day 2 – Relax on‐board our comfortable coach as we travel to the Calella.

Day 3 – Explore Calella in your own time today. The town is known as the holiday capital of the Costa del Maresme, with its lively outdoor terraces, restaurants and glorious beaches.

Day 4 – No holiday to Catalonia would be complete without a visit to beautiful Barcelona! The cosmopolitan seaside city, with a history among the oldest in Europe. Visit the Park Guell, one of Gaudi’s major works for spectacular views over the city or head to the Sagrada Familia – now the emblem of Barcelona – this incredible unfinished cathedral was the work of architect Antoni Gaudi.

Day 5 – Our first visit today is to Girona, renowned for its Medieval architecture, walled Old Quarter and the Roman remains of the Forca Vella fortress. Walk along the ancient fortress walls for breathtaking views, discover the splendour of the wonderfully preserved Jewish Quarter or visit its spectacular landmarks including The Placa de la Catedral, used during the filming of Game of Thrones. After some free time, we travel to Besalu for some more free time. This unique town is a magnificent example of a Medieval Spanish town.

Day 6 – Enjoy some free time in Calella and perhaps explore the old part of town, where a maze of cobbled streets surrounds the ancient church of Santa Maria.

Day 7 – Today you can join us for an optional excursion to Montserrat*, a rocky mountain range and Santa Maria de Montserrat, a Benedictine monastery, that sits at the top of the mountain. Inside this fascinating monastery is a statue of the Virgin of Montserrat, one of the few black Madonna’s in Europe and is Catalonia’s most important religious retreat. For those of you who don’t wish to join us, you can enjoy a day at leisure. Please note: Price does not include any of the Monserrat Funiculars.

Day 8 – We bid a fond farewell to our hosts and return to our overnight hotel.

Day 9 – We continue our journey to the East Midlands.
