DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – We make our way to Kendal, a handsomely built limestone market town with a compact centre, that offers a wide range of restaurant, cafés and all‐purpose shops. Later, we continue to the Cumbria Park Hotel.
Day 2 – After breakfast we travel to Keswick, where we have included a boating trip around Lake Derwentwater. On‐board you can enjoy special views of Skiddaw, England’s fourth highest mountain, Catbells and the ‘Jaws of Borrowdale’. Later, we visit the village of Grasmere, made famous by poet William Wordsworth, who wrote much of his poetry here.
Day 3 – Enjoy a day at leisure in Carlisle. Perhaps visit the remarkable Carlisle Castle (just a short walk away from our hotel). Originally built in 1092 by William Rufus, the castle is home to over 2000 years of history.
Day 4 – We travel to Ullswater where we have arranged a 1-hour cruise on the lake aboard a heritage steamer vessel. From here we continue to nearby Lowther Castle & Gardens, built at the turn of the 19th century on the site of two previous houses. The castle was a grand affair boasting a room for every day of the year! Seventy years on from its demolition, Lowther Castle is now one of the most intriguing attractions in the Lake District, home to dramatic ruins and gardens within gardens.
Day 5 – We retrace our footsteps back to the East Midlands.
