HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR STAY

Day 1 – We travel to our central hotel in Chartres. During our stay the Chartres light show: “Chartres en lumieres” will be underway. As the sun falls, this spectacular light show bursts into life and has become one of the major events in the city. Over 24 sites across the city will be illuminated each evening – including the Notre Dame Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the old Episcopal Palace.

Day 2 – This morning we visit Giverny. This charming and idyllic village on the River Seine captured the heart of Claude Monet, one of the most famous painters in history and the founding father of the French Impressionist style. Giverny later became his hometown, inspiring many of his most famous works. While here, we have included admission into Monet Gardens – where Monet lived from 1883 to 1926. This afternoon we take you to Rouen; a gentle stroll along its cobbled streets will take you into the heart of the town, home to the the Halls of Justice and the Gros Horloge (Great clock). Walk a little further and you will discover the Market Square, most famously where Joan of Arc was executed in 1431.

Day 3 – Today you can choose to join us for an optional excursion to the Palace of Versailles*, one of the most majestic palaces on earth! The Palace has been listed as a world Heritage Site for more than 30‐years and is one of the greatest achievements in French 17th century art. Originally Louis XIII’s old hunting pavilion, it was later transformed and extended by his son, Louis XIV, when he installed the Court and Government there in 1682. Today, the Palace contains 2,300 rooms all equally as magnificent.

Day 4 – We retrace our footsteps back home.
