We visit York the most important historic city in the north. You will be spoiled for choice, with historic buildings, museums, river cruising and shopping all on offer.
Day 2
This morning, we visit the market town of Barnard Castle, where you can wander the delightful, cobbled streets and twisting lanes. After a little free time, we return to our hotel for an early evening meal before travelling to Auckland Castle for tonight's spectacular performance. As dusk falls, this action-packed show, featuring pyrotechnics, spectacular lighting, water effects and a cast of over 1000 local volunteers, can begin.
Day 3
After breakfast we visit the traditional North Yorkshire Market town of Thirsk. Essentially unchanged and uninfluenced by the world, Thirsk has a charm all its own. The major attraction is the Wonderful World of James Herriot, a part TV set, part museum to the popular 'All Creatures Great and Small' drama series.
The Holiday Inn Washington provides a friendly and comfortable nights stay in a contemporary, feature rich room.
