DAY 1
We travel into northern Europe to an overnight hotel.
DAY 2
After crossing the border into Germany, we visit the Möhne Dam in the Ruhr Valley, heroically breached by the Lancasters of 617 Squadron (Dambusters) in 1943, which ended up being critical to the outcome of World War II. From here. we continue to our Goslar hotel in the glorious natural surroundings on the slopes of the Harz Mountains.
DAY 3
This morning we take a scenic drive through the beautiful Harz region to the delightful town of Wernigerode. Nestled against the northern foothills of the Harz Mountains, this attractive, colourful, town has an impressive medieval town centre, home to rows of charming, timber-framed houses and is dominated by a fascinating, fairytale castle. Our included excursion today includes a journey on the Brocken Railway, the flagship of the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways. Sit back as the steam locative climbs the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains, the Brocken summit.
DAY 4
Explore over 1,000 years of history in the former imperial city of Goslar today. Referred to as the 'Rome of the North', Goslar was the favoured seat of government in northern Germany for centuries. It was also a centre of Christianity and the spires of the 47 churches; chapels and monasteries define the town's unique silhouette. Take a stroll through the crooked, cobble-stoned streets of the medieval Old Town, designated a World Heritage Site.
DAY 5
Our day begins in the quaint town of Hamelin, located on the River Weser it is famous as the setting for the Pied Piper children's story, written by two of Germany's most famous sons, the Brothers Grimm, who wrote some of the world's best-loved fairytales. Hamelin is a beautiful historical town with magnificent timber-framed buildings, many dating back from the Renaissance period. Perhaps follow the rat trail, dotted with cafés, inns, cosy beer gardens and pretty little shops, these little handcrafted animals will point the way.
DAY 6
We leave the Hartz Mountains today and begin our homeward journey crossing back into Belgium for an overnight stay
DAY 7
Our tour comes to a close as we return home.
