DDay 2
Today, we head west to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of magical Mont Saint-Michel, one of France's most iconic landmarks, perched atop an ancient mount and surrounded by the sea at high tide. Founded in the eighth century, it has retained an enchanting medieval appearance and character, encircled by historical walls and ramparts. Wander around the winding, cobbled streets leading up to the abbey, browse in the shops, or simply relax and enjoy the breathtaking views of this popular pilgrimage site.
B, DDay 3
Enjoy a day at leisure to explore colourful Caen. Alternatively, join us for an optional excursion to explore Lisieux and Normandy's Côte Fleurie or 'Flower Coast'. Our first stop is Lisieux, a charming city where faith and history meet. This is the home of Saint Therese, whose extravagant basilica outshines the medieval cathedral and rivals the Sacré-Cœur in Paris. From here, we continue for an afternoon visit to Honfleur, best known for its picturesque harbour. Honfleur's beauty has been represented many times by artists, including the incredible Claude Monet. Next, we continue to the upmarket coastal town of Deauville, known worldwide for its glamour. Parisians love this seaside resort, which is the summer home to French high society.
B, DDay 4
This morning, we travel to the pretty village of Giverny to visit the home of artist Claude Monet, where he lived from 1883 until his death in 1926. It's here that he painted his famous water lilies and the Japanese Bridge, which you'll be able to admire up close – what a view! Today, his house and gardens have been restored to Monet's original designs, ensuring it remains a magnet for art and garden lovers throughout the world.
B, DDay 5
We begin our homeward journey this morning, enjoying a stop at a local calvados producer for a guided tour of the distillery and a tasting of this apple brandy, an authentic flavour of Normandy. From here, we continue back to the Channel port for the return ferry crossing and home.
