We start our journey north today, enjoying a stop in Harrogate along the way. One of Yorkshire's most elegant destinations, this characterful little town is the perfect place for shopping opportunities and home to several charming little tearooms. We continue our journey this afternoon, later arriving at our hotel.
DDay 2
Embark on a journey to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, a picturesque and secluded destination just off the Northumberland coast, an ancient holy site that’s still a popular place for modern pilgrims. This unspoilt gem, accessible only during low tide, offers a unique experience. We also visit the nearby Bamburgh Castle, a historic stronghold that has stood guard over the Northumberland coastline for over a millennium. This castle, once home to a line of kings from Henry VI to James I, is one of the largest inhabited castles in the country, steeped in rich history.
B, DDay 3
After breakfast, we visit Durham, home to the majestic Durham Cathedral. This UNESCO World Heritage Site and adjacent Durham Castle form one of Europe's most stunning city panoramas. Other city highlights include a host of fantastic shopping establishments, restaurants, and excellent river cruises, perfect for learning local history and sightseeing. After free time to explore this morning, we return to our hotel, where you can enjoy free time to explore Newcastle from our base in Jesmond. Located only a few miles outside Newcastle's city centre, Jesmond is a stylish suburb bustling with culture, shopping boutiques and plenty of spaces to escape.
B, DDay 4
This morning, enjoy a free morning to explore more of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Due to its proximity, why not make your way into the city centre via a short walk or on the nearby Tyne and Wear Metro? You’ll find countless opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, entertainment and museums. This afternoon, we enjoy an excursion to the market town of Alnwick, which dates back to 600AD. Here, we've included admission to the stunning Alnwick Castle and Gardens. As the Duke of Northumberland's private residence, it's one of England's largest castles and is familiar as a popular location for filming for many blockbusters, including Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Downton Abbey and Harry Potter. The fascinating Poison Garden is not to be missed!
B, DDay 5
We travel home with a stop in York enroute. Walk the walls, explore the cathedral or visit one of the many local attractions before we return.
