Rhineland Carnivals


The ’Karneval’ is one of the most celebrated events in Germany! In Rhineland, the carnivals are especially important and today it is a time of wonderful celebration where hundreds of people come together in festivity. Held each year the week before Lent the streets of Rhineland are transformed into an array of bright, vibrant colours and marvellous costumes, wonderful music echoes from the streets as crowds join together wearing spirited costumes and dancing.

Visits to the Carnivals in Bad-Salzig, Osterspai & Koblenz 


Day 1 – We travel to our hotel.

Day 2 – After breakfast we visit Bad Salzig, home to healing spa waters, this small town is part of the municipality of Boppard and is situated on the west bank of the Rhine. This afternoon the town will be hosting its much-loved parade, which will fill the streets with colourful costumes, fun music and dancing.

Day 3 – Today we head to the picturesque town of Osterspai, located on the largest loop of the Rhine in the midst of the “World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley”. Here, you can explore its many well-kept half-timbered houses before enjoying the carnival atmosphere.

Day 4 – This morning we take you to Koblenz for free time. Renowned for its spectacular carnivals (which have been held here since the 13th century), today on ‘Carnival Monday’ there is a huge parade through the centre of Koblenz, which draws spectators from all around the world to witness marching bands, dancers and floats which parade through the streets!

Day 5 – We retrace our footsteps back home.
