DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – We visit the Cathedral city of Durham for free time. Why not explore Crook Hall or the Botanical Gardens? After some free time, we stop at the Angel of the North for a photo opportunity before continuing to our hotel in Gateshead.
Day 2 – After breakfast we drive to Berwick-upon-Tweed, a peaceful riverside town surrounded by Elizabethan walls, which were built to keep invading Scots out! Walk the complete circuit, taking in spectacular views across the River Tweed estuary and of Berwick’s three bridges, which include the iconic Royal Border Bridge, one of the finest of its kind in the world. Afterwards we visit Bamburgh where, we have included admission into Bamburgh Castle, royal seat of the Kings of Northumberland. Enjoy its incredible history, dramatic views and treasure-trove collection of unique pieces which tell the story of Bamburgh’s many reincarnations over the centuries.
Day 3 – This morning we visit Alnwick. Here you can visit Alnwick Castle, one of Britain’s most iconic, with a rich history brimming with intrigue and starring roles – featuring as Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films! Enjoy a stroll around Alnwick Gardens with its landscaped hedges and flowerbeds around a water cascade.
Day 4 – Today we travel to Seahouses, known to many as ‘The Gateway to the Farne Islands’. Here we board our cruise around the Farne Islands, which are scattered a couple of miles off the coast. On our tour we will view sea birds on the cliff faces, see the grey seal colonies and follow the route Grace Darling and her father took during their heroic ship rescue in 1838. We will also enjoy a one hour break on Inner Farne, the largest of the Farne Islands, before heading back to our hotel.
Day 5 – Before returning home, we visit Hadrian’s Wall.
