Excursions to Harrogate, Alnwick, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Lindisfarne & Durham
DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – This morning we visit the Victorian Spa town of Harrogate. Home to Betty’s Café Tea Rooms and RHS Harlow Carr Gardens, Harrogate is one of Yorkshire’s most elegant destinations. Perhaps, visit the Royal Pump Room Museum. Built by Isaac Shutt in 1842 to provide shelter for the town’s wealthy visitor, today it’s a museum where you can explore life in bygone Harrogate. After free time, we continue to our hotel.
Day 2 – Today we visit the market town of Alnwick. Dating back to 600AD the town’s astonishing history is evident everywhere you look, from the stunning Alnwick Castle to the impressive Alnwick Gardens. We also travel to Berwick‐upon‐Tweed for a leisurely lunch stop and the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne. Lying just off the Northumberland Coast, the Holy Island (as seen on Robson Green’s Tales from Northumberland) is an unspoilt village that is cut off twice a day from the rest of the world. (the timings of this day will be clarified during your trip as it may be dependent on tide times.)
Day 3 – Easter Sunday: We visit Durham, home to one of the most recognisable landmarks in the UK, the majestic Durham Cathedral, together with adjacent Durham Castle. This UNESCO World Heritage Site forms one of the most stunning city panoramas in Europe. We return for lunch back at our hotel and a relaxing afternoon at leisure.
Day 4 – After breakfast we begin our journey home with comfort stops along the way.
