Day 3 – At leisure at our lovely seaside resort. Marina di Pietrasanta has a fine historic old town to explore, magnificent sandy beaches to enjoy, plenty of shops and a choice of cafes, pizzerias, and gelaterias to tempt your taste buds! Why not relax on the hotel’s rooftop terrace, complete with loungers, hot tub and pool.
Day 4 – Join us on our optional excursion to Cinque Terre, five centuries old villages of colourful houses amid rugged terrain and vineyards. From the main port of La Spezia we will travel by boat to the villages of Portovenere , Varnessa and Monterosso. The villages are best appreciated from the sea as they perch on the craggy rocks above the crystal clear waters. We will return to La Spezia by train for onward coach travel back to our resort.
Please note: This optional excursion may be unsuitable for passengers with restricted mobility. Cinque Terre is only accessible by boat or train and the return train journey might be crowded.
Day 5 – Our first destination today is the Roman City of Lucca. Surrounded by a medieval wall, you can wander safely through the traffic free alleyways and squares that inspired one of Italy’s greatest composers, Puccini. After a photo opportunity and some free time, we continue to Pisa - home to one of the world’s most famous landmarks, the renowned Leaning Tower.
Day 6 – After breakfast we visit Genoa, a large port city and the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Roam around the Medieval sights and check out the 12th Century city gates in the east – Porta Sopranana. From here head towards the centre of town where you’ll pass through atmospheric cobbled alleyways leading to the main square, Piazza de Ferrari – with its grand bronze fountain.
Day 7 – We leave our resort and retrace our footsteps back to our overnight hotel.
Day 8 – We return home.
