HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR STAY
Day 1 – We travel to the Hotel Alfa Inn, in Belgium.
Day 2 – After breakfast we travel to Bruges, the ‘Venice of the North’ famous for chocolate and lace. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its fairy‐tale medieval centre is a harmony of cobbled lanes and dreamy canals that link market squares lined with soaring towers and historic churches.
Day 3 – This morning we take you to Ostend, the cosmopolitan ‘City by the Sea’. This thriving seaside and fishing port is renowned for its mussels, a delicacy in Belgium and its sea specialties, including Ostend Sole (Sole filled with shrimps and mussels). Why not head to the docks and visit Mercator – this restored former training ship, first launched in 1932, is now a floating maritime museum. Alternatively, head to the centre of the city where you’ll discover Sint‐Petrus‐en‐Pauluskerk (Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul). Built in the early 1900’s, this striking Gothic style church is home to the tomb of Louise‐Marie, the Queen of Belgium. After some free time, we visit Ghent. The best way to discover the city’s turbulent past is with a visit to Gravensteen (the Castle of the Counts) (admission not included). Originally built in the Middle‐Ages, it is the only remaining medieval castle with a moat in Flanders.
Day 4 – We retrace our footsteps home.
