DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – A sea voyage lands us at Douglas, main town and capital of the Isle of Man, and our base for the first leg of our journey.
Day 2 – A full tour of the island will take in Castletown, with its well-preserved Medieval castle, the seaside village of Port Erin, & the fishing port of Peel. The former Viking island is a land of legend, folklore & smuggling, of rugged unspoiled beauty and spectacular sunsets.
Day 3 – We enjoy free time in Douglas, with plenty to see and do. Be sure to visit the Manx Museum with its treasure of Viking gold, stroll the pretty promenade, perhaps with an ice cream in hand, and take a horse drawn carriage ride. Douglas will remind you of a little seaside resort from days gone by.
Day 4 – Crossing back to the mainland, we make our way to the heart of the Lake District National Park, and to the market village of Kendal, packed with intriguing arts and crafts, and of course home of the famous mint cake. Later we head to our hotel in nearby Shap Wells.
Day 5 – Today we visit Lake Windermere, where Donald Campbell broke the world speed record back in 1967. The lake and surrounding peaks were also inspiration to Beatrix Potter. We also visit Ambleside, a small town and major tourist resort that lies at the head of the lake.
Day 6 – We travel to Keswick, the pretty market town at the foot of the Skiddaw Peak, and on the shores of Derwent Water. There are many restaurants, shops and museums to enjoy, before venturing to our final Lake District destination Penrith. The former Cumbrian capital is home to a fascinating museum displaying Roman Pottery, the 14th century Penrith Castle and boasts panoramic views across the Eden valley.
Day 7 – After an early breakfast we bid a fond farewell to the beautiful Lake District and head for home.
