DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – With comfort stops on the way we travel to York, the most historic and fascinating city in the north of the country. Explore the castle, dungeons and magnificent minster, perhaps treat yourself to a cruise on the River Ouse or make your own chocolate bar at the brilliant York Chocolate Story – an interactive history of Rowntree.
Day 2 – Today we travel to Alnwick Castle and Gardens, which has been home to the Percy family for over 700 years. You may have spotted elements of this castle previously on the Christmas specials of Downton Abbey, acting as Brancaster Castle.
Day 3 – We visit Durham for free time. Home to one of the most recognisable landmarks in the UK: Durham Cathedral. This afternoon enjoy time at leisure, perhaps even take advantage of the hotel’s excellent leisure facilities.
Day 4 – After a leisurely morning we visit Beamish Living Museum of the North. The town is brought back to a previous life dramatically by costumed actors, and you can enjoy every day working demonstrations of life in a bye gone era. Buy freshly baked bread, visit the traditional 1900’s pub, the Sun Inn or café, and buy souvenirs of your visit. A great day out id guaranteed for all.
Day 5 – We’ll spend our morning at Helmsley Walled Gardens, where we have organised a guided tour before we return home. Nestling at the foot of the North York Moors, the gardens are a tranquil and inviting space originally designed to provide vegetables, fruit and flowers and now it is a place for horticultural therapy. From here we continue our journey home.
